Why have a Music Boosters?

There are several aspects of a music program that need a support team: transportation, fundraising, emotional support.  A music director can provide a certain amount of these things, but not all of it.  Support from family and neighbors is incredibly important to musicians, especially young, developing musicians.  A music director can find himself spread incredibly thin if left to coordinate everything by himself.  Having a regular, effective support team in place to help with different aspects of the program is a wonderful and vital resource to a music director in promoting the program and building that program musically and in numbers.

What do the Music Boosters do?

A look at the above definitions gives a fairly clear picture of what Music Boosters do.  The children in our music program are the stars of the show.  The directors run the music program and prepare the students for the varied performances and activities throughout the year.  The boosters are the team of dedicated parents and volunteers that help to make each activity a successful venture for the students.
As directors are the architects of the music program, the music boosters are the contractors, helping to bring the vision of the architect to fruition.

Anyone who has a desire to help the music department succeed is welcome to become a music booster.  Parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts of student musicians are certainly encouraged to participate, as well as community members who have an active interest in the music program.

There are several areas in which music boosters can lend their particular skills and services.

  • Assisting in planning and implementing fundraisers for the music program to assist in covering the costs of transportation and materials needed throughout the year.
  • Driving music students to and from the events that they participate in throughout the year.
  • Volunteering as a school site representative for the Music Boosters.
  • Chaperoning students at large events and at concerts and recitals.
  • Providing refreshments for post-concert receptions.
  • Filming or photographing concerts, field trips and rehearsals for the band archives.
  • Coordinating the year-end awards banquet at each school site.
Where and When do the Music Boosters meet?

Meetings are schedule on an as-needed basis for the entire Music Booster Organization.
School-site booster meetings are held every month to coordinate with parents and cover site specific concerns.
Check with the directors for the most current schedules.
